The first renewable energy project that recovers the heat generated by the TIM Group's Data Center, to allocate it to the district heating of over 5,000 homes in the ALER district, is already operational in Rozzano. The initiative results from the partnership between TIM Enterprise and GETEC - a leading company in Europe for energy efficiency and renewable energy services - through its subsidiary Atmos, which provides the heat distribution service to the citizens of the Lombard municipality.

In particular, the project makes it possible to recover the heat produced by the Rozzano Data Center plants - one of the most important in Italy - integrating it into the district heating network of the Lombard city, with a reduction in natural gas consumption and carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere, thus making the Lombard city more efficient and sustainable. In fact, it is estimated that the emission of 3,500 tons of CO2 will be avoided with an environmental benefit equal to the contribution of about 17,500 trees planted.
The thermal energy generated by the TIM Enterprise Data Center is captured and redirected through the use of heat exchangers and pumps, as heated water to GETEC's local district heating network, which reaches the buildings served through a system of underground pipes. The heat distributed along the network is then supplied to residents for heating and the production of domestic hot water.

The partnership also provides for the adoption of solutions that make it possible to guarantee greater flexibility in thermal and cooling production for both TIM Enterprise plants and the Rozzano district heating network. Through the use of innovative digital technologies, it is therefore possible to optimize the operation of the plants, improving operational efficiency and allowing a more dynamic management that can be adapted to changes in energy demand. This approach allows precise and real-time control of energy resources, maximizing performance, further reducing waste and therefore increasing benefits for citizens.

With an area of approximately 90,000 square meters, the Rozzano site is part of TIM Enterprise's Data Center infrastructure network - the largest in Italy - with 16 existing Data Centers located throughout the country, to which a new state-of-the-art plant under construction near Rome will be added by the end of 2026. This addition will bring the Group's total capacity to 125 Megawatts. All TIM Group's Data Centers have been designed and built according to the most advanced criteria of eco-sustainability, energy efficiency, reliability, safety and low environmental impact and have obtained over 100 certifications. The collaboration between TIM Enterprise and GETEC in Rozzano is also part of the sustainable management of Data Centers and will lead to a significant reduction in environmental impact and an improvement in ESG parameters.
